Psych Consult Summer Workshops for 2010

PsychConsult, Inc. is a group of Filipino psychologists offering psychological assessment, psychotherapy, training, supervision, consultation, research, employee enhancement programs and play therapy. * A Workshop on Psychosocial Interventions During Disasters, Crisis Situations, and Beyond

April 8 to 10, 2010 (Thursday to Saturday)8:00am – 5:00pm
Target participants: Guidance Counselors in the school setting, Psychologists in the school or clinical setting, Campus Ministers, School-Based Health Workers
Regular fee: Php 5,200.00

By the end of the 3-day workshop, the participants should be able to:
- Identify and differentiate the key frameworks and concepts that are important in providing psychosocial services to Filipino trauma survivors
- Assess and identify vulnerable populations in need of specific psychosocial interventions
- Demonstrate the ability to provide appropriate psychological interventions and
- Come up with an action plan to apply and implement psychosocial intervention activities in their respective contexts (e.g., schools, organizations, communities)


* Rorschach: The Comprehensive System
April 12 to 17, 2010 (Monday to Saturday) and
April 19 to 22, 2010 (Monday to Thursday), 4:00pm – 8:00pm
Target participants: Graduate students of psychology and practicing psychologists

This 10-day workshop aims to develop competencies in administration, scoring and interpretation of the Rorschach Inkblot Test using Exner’s Comprehensive System, through the following:
- Learning basic principles of Rorschach Inkblot Test
- Mastering scoring principles through hands-on exercises using sample protocols
- Understanding computer-generated report of Rorschach: the Comprehensive System


* Understanding the Basics of Play Therapy
May 3 to 7, 2010 (Monday to Friday)8:30 am – 5:00 pm
Target participants: Graduate students of psychology and related fields, psychologists, other mental health, medical, and allied medical professionals who work with children
Facilitators: Ma. Cristina H. Enriquez, M.A., and Ma. Araceli B. Alcala, M.A.

This 5-day workshop is designed to build basic play therapy skills through the following:
- Learning basic play therapy skills vis-à-vis its theoretical grounding
- Applying basic play therapy skills through the conduct of actual play therapy sessions
- Receiving feedback and supervision from experienced play therapists
- Exploring issues related to the person of the therapist and the therapeutic relationship


* A Writeshop on Report Writing
May 14 to 15, 2010 (Fri to Sat) 9:00am – 5:00pm
Target participants: Graduate students, guidance counselors, psychologists, and other mental health professionals

This workshop is designed for graduate students and professionals who are both new in the field and those who have been doing assessment but need guidance in writing reports. Focus of workshop is on writing style, strategies for organizing ideas, and making the report coherent and reader-friendly. These reports can be in the fields of guidance and counseling, education, and psychology, except reports prepared for legal purposes. Sample reports are used for critique.


* Ethics in Clinical Practice

This workshop aims to delve into the PAP Professional Codes of Ethics and its application to the areas of Assessment and Psychotherapy. Both areas will explore ethical issues in confidentiality, informed consent, roles, competencies, and personal values of the clinician. Additionally, Ethics in Assessment will include feedback, report writing, use of proper terminologies, and deviation from standard procedures. On the other hand, Ethics in Psychotherapy will discuss conflicts of interest, protection of clients from harm, receiving gifts, professional and social relationships, and boundaries. Lecturettes and presentation of case studies will be utilized for more in-depth discussions.


* Embracing Different Learners: Appreciating and Understanding Children’s Learning Styles
May 29, 2010 Saturday (9:00am - 4:00pm )
Target participants: Teachers, Parents, Social Workers, and other professionals who work with children

This workshop is designed for teachers, parents, social workers and other individuals who work with children. At the end of the workshop, participants will learn how to appreciate and understand the different learning styles in children and be able to identify techniques and strategies that can help maximize the child’s potential. Participants will also be able to identify red flags in children’s cognitive, social and emotional development which may be affecting their ability to learn and meet academic competencies, as well as influence their socio-emotional growth.
