Go For Non-Electronic Toys

One of the mistakes I made was getting excited over electronic toys before. I requested a lot of those from my parents abroad. I ended up requiring battery packs after another.

And though they did teach my son cause and effect maybe, they did not teach him to make connections himself. They were not particularly encouraging of creativity and use of imagination. They did not let him play pretend most times. They had lights and taught songs, sure, but they ended up limiting what my son could do and learn in the end.

I am notsaying they are bad. But if you are investing on toys for your child, go for non-electronic ones. The ones he could bang and throw and still play with after. Ones that are durable and would withstand toddler roughness. At least you, and your child, will be able to enjoy the toys for a longer time. Because you see, once electronic toys are broken, they really aren't much fun anymore.

Employ Comment Moderation

Whether in Blogger or Wordpress, make sure to employ comment moderation for all your posts, not just the recent ones.

You see, people are actually hiring other people to leave links on blog posts. Some may even be posting scripts that could basically 'steal' away your traffic. Don't let them ride on your blog's popularity... or at least, don't let their links fool your few visitors into getting who-knows-what when they click on a link. These comments become part of your blog's pages so make sure you have total control over every link there is on your site.

Ipanema Colorful Sea Collection

Last March 17, Ipanema officially launched Giselle Bundchen's new line of flip flops and footwear under the Ipanema Colorful Sea Collection. The advocacy is preserving marine life with an emphasis on turtles. The launch was held at Whitespace and the collection showcased by dancing ballet dancers.

The latest GB collection is as colorful and fresh as Ipanema, Brazil, with its pristine beaches and cool waters. Perfect for summer outings and casual strolls, the collection will be available in stores in the country come April.

Meanwhile, here's a peek of the launch and the new flip-flops, with their vibrant colors and just really beautiful design.

The flip-flops cost between P1,500 (most flats like Kirey, Sand Fem and Star Thong Fem) to P2,000 (Plataforma and Thong Fem) but the creme de la creme of the collection, featuring a true-blue swarovski, costs P6,000 per pair.

Manila Bay Dining Cruise by Prestige Cruises

It will not cure joint pain but it may just clear colds, provide a relief fron allergies and make you fall in love all over again... either with your date or with Manila Bay.

Prestige Cruises Inc. offers Manila Bay Dining Cruises four times a day every Mondays to Fridays and five times a day every weekend and holidays.

It takes about an hour and you are provided with a man and woman serenading you as the ship cruises around Manila Bay. It reaches Mall of Asia before returning to the dock near the now-closed Jumbo Palace. Walk-in guests are welcome but making reservations does ensure you get seats, they contact you and meals are arranged for you. You also have the option to buy tickets with meals or not.

Tickets with meals cost P500/person.

It's not really a very romantic thing but the sea breeze is sure uplifting. Plus, we do have a really breathtaking sunset happening at the Manila Bay everyday so you can time your trip around that time.

Meals-wise, the food is from so-so to good. If given a choice between fish and chicken, opt for the chicken because it's more tenderly cooked. They provide soup and a main meal (rice, some veggies, one viand and a small square of blueberry cheesecake) and maybe water. Other beverages would ahve to be paid for (I believe our mango juice was P75 per order). So yes, I wouldn't recommend going on the Prestige Cruise if you want to wine and dine your beloved (unless you can commission the whole ship maybe and make more luxurious arrangements).

I recommend this cruise to photographers who want a more unimpeded view of the Manila bay sunset, couples who want to try something new, and oldies who want to remember the glory of Manila Bay. It may also be a great opportunity to teach history to your kids and reminisce with your parents.

And if there is another fireworks competition over at the Mall of Asia, the Manila Bay Cruise ship will take you there without having to deal with the MOA crowd.

Black Forest Gummy Bears

Nope, I do not know a thing about diet pills with ephedra. And am also not really an expert when it comes to candy treats. I am not even a fan of gummy bears for that matter. Which is why Black Forest Gummy Bears are really good because they got me hooked!

I especially love the red color ones. Unfortunately, our house is being raided by ants so we had to repackage our gummies and I already threw away the wrapper so I can't tell what particular flavors there are.

I also can't say just how much calories these pack.

I'd still recommend them as a better alternative to hard candy, which is more acidic and thus more damaging to the teeth.

One last thing, maybe it's because my son doesn't chew it well or maybe because it's really made from real gelatin... but I have also noticed that my son will skip a bowel movement after eating some. He doesn't get constipated exactly because he does manage to poop the following day. But i'd still go easy with this on toddlers like him.

And definitely, it is a choking hazard to anyone younger than 1.5 years, I think.

Natural Migraine Treatment

Thankfully, I am not prone to migraines. I am not even prone to headaches. But I did keep in mind a natural migraine treatment a breastfeeding lactivist shared with us last year. That is, put an ice pack or cold compress on your head then dip your feet in warm water.

The opposing temperatures will supposedly work to restore balance your body lacks, which is basically what is causing the migraine. It can be stress, monthly period or other illness that is causing the hormonal imbalance resulting in your throbbing headache.

Drinking hot tea or any warm citrus drink will also help.

The best thing about this treatment is its very doable without side effects. Just make sure you test the water first to make sure your feet won't get scalded.

Win a $50 Target Gift Card

Maybe as a reward for parents who are intentional in their parenting, BetterParenting.com is offering a $50 Target Gift Card Giveaway! Joining is easy enough. Just leave a comment as to how you're going to spend the money!

Bonus entries will be given, however, for those who are willing to go the extra mile. One that would earn you 10 bonus entries is to blog about a favorite Better Parenting article, with a link to the post. Dare I say that all those I have written can be found here? Haha.

To be objective though, my favorite Better Parenting article is the one on Secondary Infertility. First, it was very poignantly written. It's also something that I am sort of dealing with right now, something that I am scared of. I could totally relate with the author, feeling guilty about desperately wanting another child when am already blessed with a healthy one. But some parents just really want more kids. And I feel we have love enough, and creativity enough to find the means, for another one (or two).

Swim Excess Weight Away

Summer is raging and we're all left complaining on how to tolerate the copious amounts of sweat we're generating. But there is one upside to all this heat: weight watchers can swim their excess weight away. Enroll in a swimming class if you still don't know how to swim. Enroll as a family! Make it a weekly family activity if a pool is nearby. You may not be needing diet supplements after all.

One other thing you can do is to 'drown' your fats by doubling your water intake. That will not only help burn more calories but it will ensure you don't run the risk of dehydration.

*~*

On a related note, you can also consider enrolling your babies in a Lozada Baby and Me class for toddlers.

If you're planning to go but have never been to one, check out my post from last year on what to expect from a Crocs Mega Sale event. Make sure to bring companions to fall in line for you because the long lines are sure to be a source of hair loss for women and major grumpiness in men (unless they love shopping as well). And leave the babies at home! The summer heat and the crowd will all just be taxing to a child.

Up to 90% off! Go, go, go!!!

Manila Manor Hotel

Manila Manor Hotel is a 3-star hotel I didn't know about until the NGO I was volunteering for decided to conduct a training there. I was really amazed to find such a pleasant 3-star hotel in Manila.

I am not sure if they have bigger function rooms but the one we used just past the lobby can probably accommodate 20-30 people comfortably. Their staff were friendly and accommodating and really attentive.

The cooking is between good to great, considering that it is only a 3-star hotel. It tasted of home cooking with oomph. Meals were served at the cozy dining area, which had an extension at the second level, with a lovely view of the balustrade that cascades into the lobby.

Wifi will cost you though if you didn't bring your own internet connection. Your tretinoin review will be worth P100 per hour. The wifi login cards can be purchased from the reception desk.

I did not get to take a lot of pictures because I was speaking in the training. I also do not know if their rooms are any good. But one other thing going for Manila Manor Hotel is its proximity to a lot of places in Manila. It is 1-2 minutes walk to Robinsons Place Malate and the bar scene at Nakpil and Adriatico. The hotel is located just beside a gimik scene that offers free Wifi. It is 30-45 minutes away from the airport, around 10-20 minutes from Mall of Asia, and easy to get back to/come from if patrons intend to go to Makati or Ortigas.

Do call Manila Manor Hotel to make inquiries. They may be offering discounts to rooms and events.

Touch, Play, Catch Energizer Game

I just learned this game last Friday and am sure others must have played this one already. But for those who haven't and are looking for an energizer to wake up their sleeping students or training participants, this is how you play TOUCH, PLAY, CATCH:

1) Have the participants form a circle.

2) Get each one to touch the point of the index finger of the person to his/her right. That is TOUCH.

3) PLAY is stroking the index finger (up & down movement) using your index and thumb.

4) CATCH is trying to catch the other person's index finger in your hand.

5) The game facilitator will be saying, touch, touch, play, play, touch (whatever sequence) ending in catch. The goal of the game is to avoid getting your finger caught.

6) Think of punishments for those whose fingers got caught.

7) You don't need to finish the game with a winner, just end it on a high note with everyone alert and open again to hearing the discussion.
